Legends of the Lofoten Islands
We begin our tour in Norway’s
Viking capital on beautiful Oslofjord, where we transfer to
one of the leading hotels of the world – the privately-owned,
exclusive Hotel Continental – located in the heart of
Oslo. Here, we spend two nights allowing optimum time to explore
the city.

Following our time in Oslo, we fly to Bodø, with its
spectacular backdrop of mountains north of the Arctic Circle.
With constant daylight here from May to mid-August and the
midnight sun shining for a full six weeks during June and
July, our journey continues to join the afternoon northbound
Hurtigruten to the ‘capital’ of the Lofoten Islands,
Svolvær.
We arrive in the late evening and transfer to Svinøya
Rorbuer. Awarded the Norwegian Heritage Seal of Quality, the
traditional fishermens cabins (rorbu) are situated in the
oldest part of town on the island of Svinøya, which
is linked by bridge to the mainland.

These comfortable cabins have been refurbished and equipped
with modern kitchen and bathroom facilities to ensure you
feel totally at home for the coming three nights. Svolvær
is an attractive little town with fashionable shops and attractions
which include the incredible ‘Magic Ice’ gallery
and the fascinating War Museum.
Near to the town is Kabelvåg, the oldest village in
the islands, with its 12th century church and the re-creation
of a Viking Longhouse modelled on traces of those found in
the area.
There are plenty of options and activities available in the
area, including a boat trip to see the imposing Trollfjord,
bike trips along the winding lanes leading from the town,
and there are a number of walking routes which allow us to
explore the local area on foot.
We have three days here to take full advantage of these opportunities.
Departing the beautiful Lofoten Islands, we spend three nights
on the Hurtigruten southbound voyage to Bergen. There is a
buzz of excitement during the morning as the ship crosses
the Arctic Circle.
Legends are symbolised by the mountains as the ship sails
past the Seven Sisters range and Torghatten which still bears
the hole made by the arrow of the mythical Troll king. Weaving
through fjords and islands, we reach beautiful Bergen –
one of Europe’s Cities of Culture – in the early
afternoon and transfer to our centrally located hotel.

Here we have bars, cafés and many places of interest
on our doorstep - a few minutes walk will bring you to the
picturesque harbour area and the World Heritage site of Bryggen.
On our final morning there is time for some last minute sightseeing
before our transfer to the airport for the homeward flight
(via Oslo) to the UK.
